We are proud to present our 2025 Integrated Annual Report, reflecting how the work of the NSRI creates waves of meaningful, lasting impact across South African society.
As the only NPO dedicated to saving lives and protecting livelihoods on and around our waters, we are driven by a simple belief: every rescue, every act of prevention and every moment of education extends far beyond the immediate event. When a life is saved, a future is restored and a family, a livelihood and a community are preserved. When a child learns water safety, that knowledge is carried forward, shared with others, embedded in communities and passed on to future generations. Each of these moments does more than change a single life; it creates a ripple that travels outwards, shaping safer outcomes far beyond the point of impact.

Our impact is delivered through three interconnected service pillars: community programmes, lifeguarding and rescue. Together, these pillars form a complete system of water safety, spanning prevention, preparedness and emergency response. Through our community programmes, we equip individuals with essential survival swimming and water safety skills. Through lifeguarding, we train and deploy professionals who actively prevent incidents before they occur. Through rescue, our highly skilled volunteer crews respond in critical moments with world-class capability and unwavering commitment.
While these acts are part of our daily reality, they are life-defining for those we serve. Their impact extends across all six of our capitals and compounds over time, strengthening individuals, families, communities and, ultimately, the nation. This growing wave of impact is made possible through the support of our stakeholders. We serve all South Africans with more than 97% of our funding coming from private individuals and companies – a powerful expression of ubuntu in action.
With the dedication of our volunteers, the trust of our partners and the generosity of our donors, we continue to extend our reach. In doing so, we ensure that more lives are saved, more communities are empowered and more South Africans return safely to the people and places that matter most, today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
