We spent the day with our crew from Station 34 Yzerfontein, their neighbours from Station 4 Mykonos, Rotarians, members of the local community and a number of donors who have generously supported the project. In his speech CEO, Dr Cleeve Robertson, explained that the building is not just a boatshed to house our assets; it is a home.
Former Station Commander, Rudi Rogers, was present at the celebration and was commended for his patience and tenacity in the 7 years that it took to bring this dream to fruition. The builder, Mr Karl Kunert, was also acknowledged for his excellent workmanship.
A plaque honours the enormous role that Rotary has played through funding in excess of R1m towards this rescue base.
