ST FRANCIS BAY:
At 15h30, Saturday, 17th January, NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew launched the sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF ST FRANCIS II and rendezvoused with the Chokka fishing boat BUKANI I off-shore of Jeffreys Bay to casualty evacuate a 42 year old fisherman suffering an amputated toe sustained after getting his right big toe entangled in the anchor chain.
The toe was recovered and transported, with the patient, aboard our sea rescue craft to Port St Francis where Private Care ambulance services transported the injured fisherman to hospital in a stable but serious condition.
It is not known if the toe has managed to be reattached by doctors but the fisherman is expected to make a full recovery.
At 11h30, Sunday, 18th January, NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew responded aboard our Sea Rescue craft SPIRIT OF DAWN to off-shore of Ramsgate to assist two men drifting without motor power on a Jet-Ski.
Without incident the jet-ski with both men were towed safely to Shelly Beach, where once safely ashore, required no further assistance.
