GEORGE:Mike Vonk, NSRI Wilderness deputy station commander, said:At 13h59, Friday, 09th November, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were alerted following unconfirmed reports of an aircraft suspected to have ditched in the sea at Victoria Bay, George.WC Government Health EMS Control dispatched the AMS/EMS Skymed rescue helicopter and NSRI Wilderness duty crew launched sea rescue craft to investigate.Emergency Services were placed on alert.ARCC (Air Rescue Coordination Centre) initiated an investigation and George Airport Air Traffic Control (ATC) confirmed that all aircraft in the area were accounted for.Following a search no sign of any aircraft accident was found at Victoria Bay.During investigations ARCC were quickly able to determine, with the assistance of George Airport ATC, that a fire fighting aircraft flying low level over the coastline at Victoria Bay had given eye witnesses the impression of an aircraft ditching in the sea and it was confirmed to be a false alarm with good intentions and all of the deployed rescue resources returned to base.
PLETTENBERG BAY:Tyron Evans, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty controller, said:At 16h44, Friday, 09th November, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a man injured in a fall at Robberg Nature Reserve hiking trail.An NSRI Plettenberg Bay medical and rescue crew responded and on arrival on the scene, at the Wild Side of The Gap, a 65 year old German man was treated for an injury sustained from tripping on a board walk, and in a stable condition he was secured into a Stokes Basket stretcher and he was hiked to the car parking area where a Med-Life ambulance has transported the man to hospital in a stable condition accompanied by his wife.
SOETWATER:Bruce Bodmer, NSRI Hout Bay duty coxswain, said:At 08h54, Saturday, 10th November, NSRI Kommetjie launched the sea rescue craft Il Batello and NSRI Hout Bay launched the sea rescue craft Nadine Gordimer to assist a rigid inflatable boat with motor mechanical failure off-shore of the Atlantic side of Cape Point Nature Reserve.NSRI Hout Bay took two fishermen from the casualty craft onto the sea rescue craft to re-warm them, both were mildly hypothermic, and an NSRI Hout Bay rescue swimmer was put aboard the casualty craft and the casualty craft towed to Hout Bay without incident.Once safely back at Hout Bay harbour their boat was recovered and the fishermen required no further assistance.
OUDEKRAALQuentin Botha, NSRI Table Bay station commander, said:At 17h12, Saturday, 10th November, NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Bakoven were alerted to a local yacht requesting assistance off-shore of Oudekraal.They were suspecting that they had run out of fuel and requested a tow.NSRI Bakoven launched the sea rescue craft Rotarian Schipper accompanied with 20 litres of fuel and NSRI Table launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Vodacom.On arrival on the scene, 4 nautical miles off-shore of Oudekraal, in increasing wind speeds, NSRI Bakoven transferred 20 litres of fuel to the yacht and her motor was started confirming that it was only fuel starvation.NSRI Table Bay arrived on the scene and NSRI escorted the yacht towards the Port of Table Bay and once the yacht was close to the Port and heading for RCYC (Royal Cape Yacht Club), where she had departed from earlier, no further assistance was required and NSRI returned to base at NSRI Bakoven base and at NSRI Table Bay base.
