Garth Dominy, NSRI Wilderness deputy station commander, said:At 09h30, Sunday, 16th September, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports from a member of the public of a rubber-duck drifting towards shore and towards rocks with 3 men onboard off-shore of Gerricke's Point, Sedgefield. Our duty crew responded to our Sedgefield satellite Sea Rescue station and the sea rescue craft Oscars Rescue was launched and we rendezvoused with the casualty craft, a 4.7 meter rubber-duck, with 3 local men onboard, who were at that stage in no imminent danger, in calm seas with a light breeze, but adrift due to motor mechanical failure and they would have eventually drifted onto the rocks at Gerricke's Point. We set up a towline and towed the casualty craft into deeper water and away from danger and the sea rescue craft Spirit of Rotary was launched from our Wilderness Sea Rescue station and on her arrival the 3 men from the casualty craft were taken ashore and NSRI crew manned their boat and the towline was transferred and Spirit of Rotary towed the casualty craft to Swartvlei Beach without incident and once safely beached their craft was loaded onto her trailer and no further assistance was required. The operation was completed at 11h30.
