At 08h40 on Sunday the 31st of May, NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the boat AQUA PLANET reporting gear box problems and requiring assistance to get ashore from the back-line off Shelly Beach.
NSRI Shelly Beach launched the Discovery Rescue Runner. The skipper of the casualty craft and 7 of his crew were brought safely ashore in relays aboard the Discovery Rescue Runner. The crew aboard AQUA PLANET had all been out on a diving charter so since they were already all wearing wet suits it was decided to take them ashore in relays aboard the Discovery rescue runner.
AQUA PLANET came safely ashore and no further assistance was required.
NSRI Port Edward launched the sea rescue craft WILD COAST SUN RESCUER at 15h10 on Sunday the 31st of May, to go assist the boat LADY ATLANTIS reporting a blown fuse box off of the Mpenjati River Mouth, 12 nautical miles from Port Edward, and needing assistance to get to Port Edward.
On arrival on-scene NSRI Port Edward found LADY ATLANTIS had one motor still able to be used. 6 of her crew were transferred onto WILD COAST SUN RESCUER with just the skipper and one crew remaining on LADY ATLATIS. They were able to motor back on the one motor and NSRI crew escorted the casualty boat safely back to Port Edward without incident. Once safely ashore no further assistance was required.
