Jean Le Roux, NSRI Hermanus deputy station commander, said:At 15h25, Friday, 01st May, NSRI Hermanus duty crew were activated following reports from Police of a boat capsized at Buffeljags, between Pearly Beach and Quoin Point, near to Hermanus.Two men were on a rubber-duck off Buffeljags when their boat capsized and a 64 year old man, from Stellenberg, had swum ashore and raised the alarm but a 72 year old man, from Somerset West, was missing.NSRI Hermanus responded towing the sea rescue craft LE JENMAR II and the AMS/EMS Skymed rescue helicopter, the SA Police Services, Overstrand Medical Response and WC Government Health EMS responded.While responding to the scene it was confirmed by paramedics on the shore that they had sighted a body floating in amongst kelp and rocks 50 meters off-shore of Buffeljags.On arrival on the scene NSRI rescue swimmers recovered the body of the man, declared deceased by paramedics, and the body of the man was handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services. Police have opened an inquest docket.Sincere condolences are expressed from NSRI and the Emergency Services to family and friends of the deceased man.
