Picture: Paolo GiacchettiAt 11h10, Sunday, 03rd May, NSRI Stillbaai duty crew launched our sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF ST FRANCIS to respond to Jongensfontein following eye-witness reports of paddlers in difficulty in the surf line.On arrival on the scene we found two teenagers hanging onto a friends sea kayak and NSRI rescue swimmers were deployed into the water and the two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, were rescued from the water and their friend paddled to shore safely. The 2 teenagers were brought to shore where the 16 year old was treated for mild hypothermia and he required no further assistance. It appears that the three teenagers had paddled out on 3 sea kayaks to fish but the 16 year old and the 19 year old capsized. The one sea kayak washed ashore and a second sea kayak broke in half. They then managed to hang onto their friends sea kayak until we arrived on the scene. Both sea kayaks were recovered.'TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONESMS 32287 with your name and a message of support for our Sea Rescue crew.
