On Tuesday 9th December on Langebaan main beach, 50 staff members from the Expanded Public Workers Programme (EPWP) which is part of a National Parks upliftment project participated in a WaterWise presentation given by Craig Maltby, Deputy Station Commander at Station 4, Mykonos. These teams operate on the beaches and coastal trials along the West Coast from Saldanha Bay to the southern end of sixteen mile beach near Yzerfontein. One team monitors and captures data from fishermen, ensuring they comply with regulations while the others conduct litter patrols to keep areas frequented by the public clean.“The timing of this practical water safety talk was perfect,” said Quinton Pieterse, manager of the project locally. “As well as appreciating the importance of personal safety around water, the teams really enjoyed working together, particularly when having to improvise in the various emergency situations Craig created for us,” he said.“With the busy Christmas holiday season upon us, it is great to know that there are more responsible eyes out there that now know who to call and how to react safely and positively if a situation arises,” said Craig.Station 4 Mykonos enjoys a great relationship with West Coast National Park and will continue building on this initiative.waterwise wcnpacraig waterwsie wcnp2a
