NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew launched AFROX RESCUER II and on arrival on-scene found a man and his two children safe and not injured and already ashore. The ship had marked the position and the salvagers tasked to locate and recover the containers were informed and NSRI Port Elizabeth requested to mark the container for easy location later. But on arrival in the area it was discovered that the information from the ship was some 6 hours old and the container was nowhere to be found at the given coordinates and NSRI returned to base. Ships maintain a look out for the remaining missing containers and Telkom Maritime radio Services continue to broadcast and all ships alert warning of the danger and to be on the look out and report any sightings of containers.VELLDRIF: At 06h34, Sunday, 23rd November, NSRI Mykonos duty crew responded to Flaminkvlei following reports of a boat capsized at Velddrif, with 2 males reported to be missing and one man who had managed to get to shore and raise the alarm. Police were already on the scene searching for two missing fisherman. According to the surviver, a friend of the skipper, reportedly a visitor to the area, (NSRI do not have details of the man or where he is from and Police are assisting the man), the boat had capsized 180 degrees bow to stern. All 3 men were wearing life-jackets. NSRI Mykonos duty crew launched the sea rescue craft GEMINI RESCUER II and Transnet National Ports Authority TNPA RESCUER I (rescue runner) on the scene and during shore patrols the body of one man, believed to be the skipper, was found washed up on the beach and recovered. The body of the deceased St Helena Bay man, aged 42, has been handed into the care of Police and the Forensic Pathology Services. NSRI recovered the fishermen’s net, fully laden with fish, in the hopes of finding the missing fishermen in the vicinity but there remains no sign of the missing fisherman and an ongoing search is continuing. A Police Dive Unit and local Police are continuing an ongoing search operation for the missing 43 year old St Helena Bay fisherman. Police have opened an inquest docket.DURBAN: At 10h00, Sunday, 23rd November, NSRI Durban duty crew launched MEGAN II to respond to off-shore of Virginia Beach following reports from the Durban Ski Boat Club of a fishing jet-ski off Virginia Beach with motor failure and requiring assistance to get to shore.
