Station 20 Shelly Beach held its annual year-end function and awards evening at the St Mike’s Hotel last Saturday evening. The theme was “Casino Royale” so for the first time the evening had a formal flavour.KZN Regional Director, Eddie Noyons, and the Deputy Station Commander, Pieter Coetzee, made the following awards:Station Commander’s Floating Trophy: John Rolt, Coxswain of the Year : Shaun Harris, Senior Crew Member: Antoinette le Roux, Most Dedicated Crew Member: Bianca van Zyl, Most Dedicated Senior Trainee: Caldon King and Most Dedicated Junior Trainee: Matthew StrydomThree trainees, Caldon King, Charmaine Strydom and Matthew Strydom, qualified as Shore Crew.Five-year Long Service Awards were made to Pieter Coetzee, Shaun Harris and Barry Mollett.Pieter Coetzee thanked a number of people who had made significant contributions to the well-being of the station over the past few months including a number of people at Head Office.“Without the support from these kinds of people the road we have walked over the past few months would have been a lot rougher”, he said“Often we tend to see Head Office as a distant organisation telling us what we cannot do. This is just not true. The support we have received from people like Mark Hughes, Meriel Bartlett and Alison Smith, not to mention our new CEO, Dr Cleeve Robertson, has been amazing”, he said.
