Table Bay volunteers assist yachtsman:

Table Bay volunteers were called out by the National Ports Authority at 12:35 to assist the 34ft cruising yacht Jongilanga with engine trouble.The solo skipper, John Culley, had left Cape Town on Saturday to go cruising when he noticed something wrong with his motor about 50 nautical miles out of Cape Town. He thought he’d got the prop entangled in thick kelp, but on closer investigation, he noticed that the prop had disappeared entirely. He turned around and made his way back to Cape Town where he anchored off Woodstock Beach and called for help.Spirit of Vodacom launched and met up with him outside the container terminal. A NSRI crew member was put on board to assist with hauling up the anchor and 50m of chain. The yacht was towed into the harbour, rafted alongside the rescue boat and taken to Royal Cape Yacht Club.John will effect repairs and continue his journey once his prop has been replaced.Pictures by Paula Leech.
