Durban Renovations:

Here is a report on the Durban Sea Rescue base renovations from Tim Edwards:The renovations to the Durban boat shed and crew room are well underway. A large portion of the floor has been cut out to accommodate a bigger vessel. A new balcony, wall and windows have been built around the crew room on the first floor, allowing a good viewing point for the boat. The bigger boat shed also allows crew to walk around the front deck of the boat without bumping their heads against the ceiling. Meanwhile, work on the new ramp is continuing, with piles being driven into the sea floor. These pillars will provide the foundations for the new ramp.On the other side of the boat shed, the outside paving has been raised and a new section of floor next to the 7m ramp has been cast, increasing the floor space and providing an extra entry point through a set of sliding doors. This will enable us to store an extra vessel such as a rescue runner or other small craft.This new floor will also make stepping in and out of our 7m RIB, much safer.Thanks once again to Royal Natal Yacht Club for hosting our weekly meetings whilst our base is out of action.
