DURBAN 27 NOVEMBER 2011 BOAT CAPSIZES BOTH CREWMEN RESCUED:At 17h18 the Durban duty crew were called out following eye-witness reports of a boat capsized off Umhloti with both crew members reported to be in the water 500 meters off-shore.Our volunteer duty crew launched MEGAN II and NSRI rescue swimmers, Umhlanga Surf Lifeguards, Fire and Rescue Services and Police Search and Rescue responded.On arrival lifeguards launched their surf rescue rubber duck and rescued both men from the water 500 meters off-shore. Their boat washed up onto the beach a short while later.Both men were checked by our medics and neither was injured.It appears that the boat, a Point Yacht Club rescue craft, following a yacht regatta, was being used to recover yacht regatta marker buoys off-shore when it capsized.NSRI rescuers assisted to pull the boat further up the beach where it will be recovered by the owners later.
