St Francis Bay – Thursday 01st September 2011. Critically ill patient evacuated off fishing boat:
At 14h09 on Thursday 01 September 2011 our NSRI St Francis Bay volunteer duty crew were called out for a 23 year old crewman suffering continuous seizures onboard the Chokka Fishing Boat VULGARIS, just South of Oyster Bay.
We launched SPIRIT OF ST FRANCIS II with a NSRI paramedic onboard and on arrival we found the patient to be in a critical condition.
We activated Private Care ambulance services to respond to the sea rescue base and a doctor was placed on alert.
Our NSRI paramedic, Robin Brown, initiated emergency medical treatment which included resuscitation and the critically ill patient was loaded onto our sea rescue boat. At the sea rescue station our station doctor continued treatment for seizures and for hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and the patient has been transported to hospital by a Private Care ambulance in a stable but serious condition for further treatment.
The patient is recovering in hospital and he is expected to make a full recovery.
