Durban Station 5 held their May induction on Mothers day, and as usual it put the potential volunteers to the test - and showed, in no uncertain terms, that being a NSRI crewman is not easy. The driving rain and fresh wind made the experience all the more difficult. The Station had 18 queries for new recruits. However only 7 made to the early morning induction session. As usual, we first sorted out the admin and general station safety induction. We then did in water survival skills, followed by a short jog and 200m swim test. The last activity we did was a traverse to test their communication and ability to be thrown in the deep end. Those who come back for round two may well become NSRI volunteers.
