On Saturday 16 April Station 5 Durban volunteers reported to SAAF 15 Squadron for ground school and orientation. With a large number of new recruits, and flight training scheduled throughout the remaining year, familiarisation with both aircraft and equipment is vital. The ground school training focuses on identifying the location and access procedures to the squadron, orientation of each type of aircraft, its capabilities and limitations, differences with hoists and associated procedures, and familiarisation with stretchers, baskets and strops.
After inspecting the aircraft and equipment the crew proceeded to the Squadron swimming pool where they conducted a number of in-water exercises with the stretcher and rescue basket.
Special thanks is extended to Capt. Tarryn Bind and the 15 Sqn crew for accommodating the Durban crew.
