NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were activated following a request for urgent assistance from a commercial fishing vessel reporting that they were diverting to respond towards a ski-boat, with 2 local men onboard, that was reporting to be taking on water and at risk of sinking approximately 5 nautical miles southwest of Port Alfred.
At 13h29, Saturday, 31 January, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew and NSRI crew from the NSRI Port Alfred satellite station Kenton-on-Sea were activated following a request from Police reporting to be on the scene at Boesmansrivier Mouth, Kenton-on-Sea, where a male teenager was missing following a reported drowning accident.
Gerrit Cloete, NSRI Port Alfred station commander, said: At 07h45, Thursday, 25 December, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were activated following reports from an NSRI Port Alfred crewman, who happened to be at the scene at the time, of a drowning in progress at Kelly's Beach, Port Alfred.

The sailing yacht and both her crew are offshore of the Port of East London - they are safe - they were escorted and assisted by NSRI East London from deep sea during the afternoon / conditions are not favourable for them to come into the harbour at present - it appears that they have opted to stay offshore overnight and may come into Port in the morning / the priority is that they are safe - Craig Lambinon NSRI COMMS 0823803800
At 08h44, Wednesday, 27 August, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew, the SA Police Services and Gardmed ambulance services were activated following reports of a 22 year old man missing in the Kowie River, approximately 3 kilometers upstream from the Kowie River Mouth.

On Saturday, 7 June, BCMM (Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality) Aquarium arranged a local fixed wing aircraft (airborne on a flight) to scan the coastline in an effort to spot a Humpback whale trailing a large flotation buoy that had been reported to NSRI on Friday afternoon.
We often picture boats cutting through waves to reach people in peril when we think of rescue missions. But sometimes, it’s a dolphin on a quiet beach – or a house fire in the early hours of Christmas Eve – that reminds us just how far the NSRI's reach truly extends.
PEARLY BEACH: Jean le Roux, NSRI Hermanus coxswain, said: At 18h07, Thursday, 3 April, NSRI Hermanus, NSRI Agulhas, the SA Police Services and a WC Government Health EMS rescue squad responded to Castle Beach at Pearly Beach following reports of a suspected drowning in progress.
NSRI Port Alfred responded to reports of a capsized boat in the Kowie River Mouth. Two men, wearing life jackets, were rescued by Good Samaritan Kye McGregor. NSRI righted and towed the boat to safety.
On Friday, 6 December, The SA Police Services, Police K9 Search and Rescue (Police divers and a Police K9 team), assisted by Ndlambe Municipal Environmental officers, Ndlambe Beach authorities and Ndlambe lifeguards, continued in ongoing search efforts for a missing teenager, who had gone missing in the surf zone at East Beach on Thursday.
There were multiple incidents across the country between the period of Thursday 28 November and Tuesday 3 December including responses to a distress signal, the rescues of a border collie and turtle, and the assistance of a solo sailor.
NSRI, lifeguards, Police and the emergency services have attended to multiple rescue operations over the past weeks, including sadly an increase in drowning accidents around the coastline and on inland waters.
Chris Pike, NSRI Port Alfred station commander, said: At 20h26, Thursday, 8 August, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were activated following reports from a group of fishermen on East Pier, Kowie River Mouth, of a man emerging from the sea onto the beach at East Pier who claimed that he and his friend had been walking on West Pier when they were both swept into the water by waves.

A 31 year old male Indian national remains missing at sea. We are appealing to mariners in Algoa Bay and beyond and public members along the Gqeberha shoreline to be vigilant.

At 11 am on Saturday, 16 December, at the Round Table Clubhouse on Middle Beach at Kenton-on-Sea, the new NSRI JetRib Spirit of Kenton was named and blessed.
Supporters of Station 11 had a tee-riffic time for a good cause on 24 November at the 6th annual NSRI Port Alfred Golf Day.
NSRI Station 6, as well as several others in the region, are gearing up for the PE2EL Surfski Challenge, one of South Africa’s most scenic open ocean races, spanning 250 kilometres from Gqeberha to East London.
There remains no indication as to why red distress flares were fired at sea on Sunday. NSRI Port Alfred were alerted at 12h46, Sunday, 5 February.
Bathers and shoreline anglers around the coast will notice that from today the high tide will gradually get higher than normal and low tide will gradually retreat to lower than normal leading up to the peak of the full moon Spring tide on the 6th of January - a full moon micro moon.
