Suzuki Drives Deeper Support for NSRI Operations

Strong partnerships are built over time. They begin with a shared purpose, grow through trust and, at their best, become woven into the everyday work of making a difference.

That is exactly how the relationship between the NSRI and Suzuki Auto South Africa continues to evolve.

Many South Africans know the partnership through the popular Cars4Good campaign, which allows supporters to contribute to the NSRI's life-saving work while standing a chance to win a Suzuki Jimny. But behind the scenes, the partnership has quietly grown beyond the campaign.

Suzuki's support is now helping across key areas of NSRI operations - from lifeguarding and drowning prevention to rescue readiness.

Supporting the People Behind the Rescues

The first visible example of this is at the Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort on KwaZulu-Natal's North Coast, where a Suzuki Jimny and a Suzuki quad bike are actively assisting the NSRI's lifeguarding team.

The vehicles help lifeguards patrol more efficiently, transport essential equipment and respond quickly across multiple aquatic environments, including pools, a dam and the beach.

The partnership will also strengthen the NSRI’s wider operational reach through seven Suzuki fleet loan vehicles, which are on their way to support Community Programmes teams delivering water safety education classes and survival swimming lessons across South Africa.

In addition, Suzuki is supporting NSRI’s Table Bay rescue station through two outboard motors for their fast-response rescue vessel.

While these additions may not always be visible to the public, they will have a direct impact on the NSRI's ability to reach more communities, cover more ground during patrols and strengthen rescue capability on the water.

“Through Cars4Good, Suzuki has helped create national awareness and support for the NSRI’s life-saving work,” says Dirk Coetzee, NSRI Business Development Manager. “What we’re seeing now is that support is becoming part of our daily operations – our lifeguards are more mobile, our water safety education and survival swimming teams can reach further, and our rescue base in Table Bay is better equipped to respond.”

Part of a Bigger Partnership Network

As a donor-funded organisation, the NSRI relies on a broad network of partners, each contributing in different ways.

NSRI Head of Operations Charl Maritz emphasises that Suzuki's growing involvement complements, rather than replaces, the invaluable support received from many other organisations.

"Suzuki's contribution strengthens the equipment and mechanical support element of our partner ecosystem, alongside the funding, equipment and service partners who all play an essential role in helping us save lives," he explains.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

For Suzuki, expanding the partnership was a natural next step.

"The Cars4Good Competition is a great campaign and can stand on its own, but there are so many other opportunities for collaboration that we are happy to explore," says Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa. "Those conversations have already led to impactful and proactive initiatives."

He adds that the relationship works because both organisations are driven by similar values.
