The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) today announced the winner of its Monthly Giving draw and the winner of the first car in its 2026 Cars4Good competition, both held in support of the organisation's lifesaving work on South Africa's waters.

George Wood from Johannesburg took home R150 000 in the NSRI's July Monthly Giving grand prize draw. Every month, the NSRI gives away R50 000, with three special grand prize draws held each year. By contributing as little as R25 a month, supporters stand a chance to win a share of R1 million while helping to fund the NSRI's life-saving work.

In a separate draw, the NSRI awarded the first of four cars in the Cars4Good competition. Anja Olivier from Pretoria won a Suzuki five-door Jimny. Cars4Good, run in partnership with Suzuki Auto South Africa, gives members of the public the chance to win one of four Jimnys, with only 45 000 tickets available. Three more draws will take place later this year.

"Congratulations to both of our winners," said Janine Van Stolk, Fundraising and Marketing Director at the NSRI. "Every ticket purchased, and every donation made, helps us keep our volunteer crews trained and equipped, our lifeguards on our beaches, and our water safety education programmes running in communities across the country. These draws are only possible because of the generosity of the South African public, and we are grateful to everyone who took part."

South Africa loses more than 1 000 people to drowning every year, among the highest drowning rates in the world. In the first six months of 2026 alone, NSRI crews rescued 1023 people across the country. The organisation relies on more than 1 500 volunteers, who train in their own time and respond to emergencies at a moment's notice.
