Jaco Kruger, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, said: At 12h44, Tuesday, 23 June, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from a Johannesburg man reporting his wife injured at Keurboomstrand Beach with a fishhook injury (a treble fishhook lure embedded in soft tissue under her foot) and unable to walk.
NSRI crew responded directly towards the scene while NSRI crew responded to our NSRI Plettenberg Bay station 14 rescue base and dispatched our NSRI rescue vehicle.
On arrival on the scene it was found that the wound had been bandaged, preventing any further injury.
The female patient, age 33, was carried by NSRI crew to a nearby parking area where her husband had fetched their car and he transported her to a local hospital, following our NSRI rescue vehicle, for further medical treatment in hospital.
In hospital, in the care of doctors and nurses, the patient is expected to make a full recovery.
It appears that the lady stood on a discarded treble fishhook lure while walking on the beach.
