At 15h39, Wednesday, 5 November, NSRI Knysna duty crew were activated following reports of a local man injured in a para-kiting accident at Buffalo Bay Main Beach
Our duty crew responded to our NSRI Knysna station 12 rescue base where, with Spring high tide approaching, we launched 2 NSRI rescue craft, Eileen Meadway and JAYTEE IV.
Our NSRI rescue vehicle, WC Government Health EMS ambulance and rescue squad, SA National Park rangers and an off duty ER24 paramedic, responded.
On arrival on the scene NSRI rescue swimmers were deployed into the surf and they swam ashore where they found the man seriously injured on the beach at the high water mark where he had landed while para-kiting.
NSRI medics commenced medical treatment and we were joined on the beach by paramedics and SANPark rangers.
Access by vehicle along the beach was not possible.
The patient was secured into a stretcher and brought to the Buffalo Bay Beach parking area where he was transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a serious but stable condition in the care of paramedics.
All thoughts and care are with the man and his family while he recovers in hospital in the care of doctors and nurses.
