On the 13th of June, a fishing trip off Saunders Rocks, Sea Point, took a devastating turn when a boat capsized.
A swift and extensive rescue operation was launched, with multiple emergency teams responding to the scene.
Amidst the chaos, Dwaine Grundlingh was pulled from the water and brought to safety. Tragically, his stepfather and his stepfather’s friend did not survive the accident.
Dwaine shares his story in the video below:
"The ocean is always stronger than you," Dwaine reflects. "Expect the unexpected. You can never be too prepared. We've been fishing there since I was 10 years old. If it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone."
Today, he shares his story – what happened in those critical moments, how he fought to stay afloat, and the rescue that saved his life. But most of all, he remembers his stepfather: "I miss fishing with him... I can never get that back."
“Aways wear a lifejacket and be aware of your surroundings,” emphasises Dwaine.
