Norman Rautenbach, NSRI Richards Bay deputy station commander, said: At 15h42, Sunday, 24 November, NSRI Richards Bay duty crew were activated following reports from the Beach Office of Umhlatuze lifeguards engaged in a search operation for a local male teenager who had gone missing in the water while swimming at Bay Hall.

NSRI Richards Bay rescue swimmers, our NSRI Richards Bay rescue vehicle, the SA Police Services and Police Sea Bordeline Control, responded while the NSRI Richards Bay rescue craft Rescue 19 Bravo was launched.
 
On arrival on the scene NSRI rescue swimmers joined Umhlatuze lifeguards together conducting free dive search efforts in conjunction with surface water and shoreline search efforts.
 
Police diver’s scuba dived on the search area where Police divers located and recovered the body of the teenager.
 
The body of the teenager has been taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police have opened an Inquest docket.
 
Condolences are conveyed to family and friends of the deceased teenager
