It’s never too late to write or update your will, and it’s not all that costly, even outside of National Wills Week.
Taking this step ensures that your assets are handled according to your wishes and can also include meaningful contributions to organisations close to your heart. By planning ahead, you provide peace of mind for yourself and support for causes you believe in.
While it may feel daunting, the process of drawing up a will can be straightforward and immensely rewarding, especially if you are able to bequeath money to a cause that’s making an impact in South Africa, like the NSRI.
A will allows you to decide how your property and belongings will be divided among your loved ones. It also lets you name guardians for any minor children and specify any special requests you might have for your funeral or other end-of-life matters.
Even if you already have a will, it’s wise to review and update it regularly. Major life events such as marriage, divorce, the birth of children or grandchildren, or the acquisition of new assets should prompt a review. Updating your will ensures that it reflects your current situation and wishes.
One meaningful way to make a lasting impact is by including a charitable donation in your will. By bequeathing a gift to the NSRI, you can help support their crucial work and make a difference in the lives of countless people.
Peter Eggeling, inspired by the rescues he's seen the NSRI perform, left a gift in his Will to enable the organisation to continue its work long after he has gone:
Bequests to charity can be a powerful way to leave a legacy. It’s a way to support causes you care about and make a positive impact long after you’re gone. As the NSRI is totally reliant on donations and sponsorships, every amount given to the NSRI is actively used to save lives.

Make us part of your trust or foundation
Trusts and Foundations raise an appreciable amount of funding for the NSRI’s rescue work annually. Please consider adding the NSRI as a beneficiary of your trust or foundation. The benefit, apart from a feeling of having done something good, is that you will be able to deduct your donation from SARS using our Section 18A Tax certificate.
