This year’s sold-out event raised a remarkable R586 000, with IVS’s contribution, for Richards Bay Station 19.
On 15 August 2024, the 19th annual NSRI Benefit Golf Day was held at the luxurious 18-hole green course at Richard’s Bay Country Club, attracting enthusiastic participants committed to supporting a life-saving cause.
The golf course was in immaculate condition, and the weather was perfect – sunny skies and a light breeze. After a day of top golf, where every hole was sponsored, participants and guests gathered for a dinner reception and prize-giving.
Beyond its success as a fundraiser, the day is a celebration that unites the local shipping community in a display of camaraderie and sportsmanship. “This golf day event is in its nineteenth year, and it’s going from strength to strength,” says Richards Bay Deputy Station Commander, Norman Rautenbach. “The support of the local shipping community is what stands out every year.”
The success of this year’s golf day is a testament to the incredible generosity and enthusiasm of the supporters. The funds raised will go to NSRI Richards Bay.
“As an NGO that is reliant on donations and sponsorships, all fundraising events are important for the NSRI, but community fundraising events that originate outside of the organisation, like the NSRI Benefit Golf Day, are extra special,” says Renée Leeuwner, NSRI Community Fundraiser. “Seeing the support from the community and the companies and organisations that undertake these events and initiatives is just incredible. Some community fundraising events like this one, which is supported by the local shipping community, have been taking place for years and are cemented into the fabric of the bases that they support.”
The NSRI extends its thanks to IVS for its continuous generous support, and to the larger shipping community in Richards Bay. “And we look forward to seeing you all at next year’s event, where we hope to build on this year’s achievements and continue making a positive impact in our community,” says Norman.
