At 14h09, Wednesday, 7 August, the CoCT water rescue network and NSRI Bakoven were activated following reports of a young male in difficulty in the water offshore of rocks at Cosy Beach, Oudekraal, near to Bakoven.

A bystander, a local man, jogging along Victoria Drive, had alerted NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) after he had noticed a commotion and calls for help, coming from the area.

NSRI Bakoven dispatched rescue swimmers and were preparing to launch an NSRI Bakoven station 2 rescue craft.

An off-duty Llandudno lifeguard responded.

The jogger then reported to NSRI EOC that he had seen the casualty in the water in difficulties when he then noticed that the casualty had managed to get out of the water and appeared to be walking on the beach.

Hout Bay CCP (Community Crime Prevention), the Llandudno lifeguard, Camps Bay CCP, the SA Police Services, Community Medics and Netcare 911 ambulance services attended at the scene where a male, from Hout Bay, believed to be aged 18, was found in the care of his family.

He was medically assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital by Netcare 911 ambulance for observation for non-fatal drowning symptoms.

It appears that he had been in difficulty in the water where we believe he was able to get to the safety of the beach.

NSRI are informed that he has been discharged from hospital.
