Mike Vonk, NSRI Wilderness station commander, said: At 14h50, Saturday, 10 February, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports from the SA Police Services of an adult male angler swept off rocks into the sea by waves while fishing from the shoreline East of Gwaing River Mouth.

NSRI Wilderness crew responded to Herolds Bay and launched the NSRI Wilderness rescue craft V's Rescuer.

WC Government Health EMS, NSRI rescue swimmers and George Fire and Rescue Services responded to join the Police on the scene.

NSRI Mossel Bay, at sea conducting routine training at the time, were activated and diverted their NSRI Mossel Bay rescue craft St Blaise Rescuer that responded to join in the search.

On arrival on the scene, in the barely accessible shoreline terrain and in rough sea conditions, a sea and shoreline search commenced.

Despite an extensive search there remains no signs of the adult male, from Pacaltsdorp.

SAPS WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Services) were activated.

SAPS WPDS are continuing in an ongoing search, joined on Sunday by NSRI Wilderness that has launched 3 rescue craft assisting Police divers in their ongoing search.

Thoughts are with the family and friends of the missing man in this difficult time.
