NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew and SRU (Strategic Response and Rescue Unit) were activated following reports of a drowning in progress in a swimming pool at a local resort in Hartbeespoort.
Arthur Crewe, NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam station commander, said:
Security guards reported a male and a female floating lifeless in a swimming pool. SRU members, HEMS (Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Services), the SA Police Services and NSRI rescue swimmers responded.
On arrival on the scene a male and female, believed to be locals, aged in their early 20's, were recovered from the swimming pool and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were commenced.
Sadly, after all efforts to resuscitate the 2 patients were exhausted, they were both declared deceased.
The bodies of the deceased were taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. Police have opened inquest dockets for investigation.
Condolences are conveyed to the families of the deceased.
