Jonathan Tufts, NSRI Port Elizabeth deputy station commander, said:At 17h20, Wednesday, 05 February, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from emergency services dispatched earlier to a drowning in progress in the Swartkops River near to the Red House Yacht Club.NMB (Nelson Mandela Bay) Beach Office, SA Police Services, a Police Dive Unit, Coastal Water Rescue and EC Government Health EMS were on the scene.Our sea rescue vehicle responded towing our sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski to the scene and on our arrival on the scene it was found that during a search for a 13 year old male, who had gone missing in the water while swimming, the body of the teenager was located and recovered from the water and sadly he was declared deceased.The body of the child was taken into the care of EC Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased teenager.
