UPDATE:Police divers have recovered the bodies of an adult female and a female toddler from the wreck of the motor vehicle.The bodies of the deceased have been taken into the care of the EC Department of Health Forensic Pathology Services.Condolences are conveyed to family.See original release below...Stephen Slade, NSRI Port Alfred deputy station commander, said:At 13h10, Sunday, 03 June, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were activated to assist Police and Emergency Services at a motor vehicle accident at the R72 Kariega Bridge, Kenton-On-Sea.The SA Police Services, Ndlambe Traffic Services, EC Government Health EMS, Ndlambe Fire and Rescue Services, Gardmed Ambulance Services, a Police Dive Unit, EC Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and Crash Towing Services were on the scene where a vehicle had reportedly careered off the roadway into the river and paramedics were treating patients on the scene for moderate to serious injuries.Police, suspecting persons from the motor vehicle accident may be trapped in the submerged vehicle in the river or may be missing in the river, requested NSRI assistance and NSRI dispatched rescue swimmers by private vehicle and our NSRI rescue vehicle towed our sea rescue craft Rescue 11 Alpha which was launched onto the river where NSRI assisted in a search for suspected missing persons, including a baby, although reports of persons still missing could not be confirmed while Police investigations continued.A Police Dive Unit coordinated NSRI rescue swimmers that conducted an initial free dive search effort and no sign of missing persons were found.Police divers will will conduct a scuba dive search on the wreck and in the river in their ongoing search efforts.A 10 year old female is confirmed to be deceased and a female toddler, a female teenager, 2 adult females and an adult male have been transported to hospitals in the area by EMS and Gardmed ambulances.A local spear fisherman who was in the area at the time assisted NSRI rescue swimmers in the free dive search efforts that were coordinated by the Police Dive Unit.It appears that occupants of the vehicle escaped from the submerged vehicle after the vehicle entered the water.The body of the deceased child has been taken into the care of EC Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.Police have opened an inquest docket.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
