HERMANUS:31st December, 2017:NSRI Hermanus responded to 5 incidents during the afternoon of Sunday.In 3 incidents at Kleinmond and Onrus unmanned boats were drifting off-shore - all had been swept off beaches in the Spring high tide.Four women were assisted at Blou Sloep after being cut off by the Spring high tide on rocks and they were assisted ashore by a private boat and they required no further assistance.Then a rubber-duck with 4 adult men onboard were towed ashore by the NSRI sea rescue craft Jaytee III at Kleinmond after their boat suffered motor mechanical failure and once safely ashore they required no further assistance.JEFFREYS BAY:31st December, 2017:At 13h05 NSRI Jeffreys Bay were asked by the Skipper of Lady Aqeelah, a local chokka fishing vessel, to patient evacuate a crew member suffering suspected dehydration. The sea rescue craft Eddie Beaumont II, already on the water for safety patrols, responded and rendezvoused with the vessel approx 12.5 nautical miles from Jeffrey’s Bay. The patient was transferred to our sea rescue craft and safely brought to shore where he was transferred to an EC Government Health EMS ambulance and transported to hospital in a stable condition. He is a 27 year old local man.At 15h30 NSRI Jeffreys Bay were alerted by Law Enforcement officers of a lady suffering breathing difficulties on the Jeffreys Bay Main Beach. NSRI medics responded on a sea rescue quad bike and on arrival on the scene immediately treated the adult woman from Cradock with oxygen for an Asthma attack until her family located her inhaler and following treatment no further assistance was required.MONWABISI:1st January, 2018:A search is continuing at Macassar, near Monwabisi, where a 25 year old man is reportedly missing in the surf.NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports authority at 11h11 and two NSRI sea rescue craft Spirit of Grand West CSI and Film Industry Fund Rescuer One were launched.NSRI Strandfontein, WC Government Health EMS, the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter, Lifeguards, Law Enforcement Marine and a Law Enforcement Marine rescue craft, the SA Police Services, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, a Police Dive Unit, Metro police conducted an extensive search including NSRI rescue swimmers and Law Enforcement Marine officers doing a sweeping line free dive search in the water.The area of beach is quite a distance from the lifeguard protected beach.No sign of the man has been found and Police have opened an investigation. A Police Dive unit will continue in an ongoing search operation assisted by lifeguards and Law Enforcement stationed at Monwabisi beach. Image: Twitter Medic NickWITSAND:1st January, 2018:At 10h18 NSRI Witsand duty crew responded to Main Beach where Haseequa Municipal lifeguards had rescued a man from the surf, believed to be aged 25, from Heidelberg. On getting the man to the beach they had initiated resuscitation efforts which were successful.Our NSRI medics and an ambulance paramedic who stepped forward assisted the lifeguards to stabilise the patient before WC Government Health EMS arrived on the scene and they transported the man to hospital in a stable condition.Haseequa lifeguards are commended for the rescue.PORT ALFRED:1st January, 2018:At 13h08 NSRI Port Alred launched a search for a kite-surfer who was noticed departing Boknes at 12h33 and was last seen deep sea off-shore of Kwaai Hoek at 13h00 but eye-witnesses were concerned for his safety.At 13h45 the kite-surfer was found coming ashore near to Kenton-On-Sea and claimed to have been on a downwind sail and he required no assistance.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
