Light aircraft emergency landing on beach:At 14h40, Thursday, 16th March, NSRI Gordon's Bay duty crew were activated to respond to Kogel Bay Resort Beach following reports of a light aircraft making an emergency landing on the beach.A 54 year old South African pilot and a 50 year old Californian passenger had reportedly already departed the scene by private transport to seek medical assistance for reportedly minor injuries.On arrival on the scene the SA Police Services were in attendance at a light aircraft that is believed to have been flying out of a Stellenbosch airfield that was on the beach between the high water and low water mark. The pilot and his passenger were no longer at the scene.NSRI and Police were joined on the scene by GB Med Security ambulance services and Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and at the request of Stellenbosch airfield officials who were on the scene the aircraft was pulled to above the high water mark and CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) officials were due on the scene later to take over and to begin investigations into the emergency landing.No further assistance was required and NSRI withdrew from the scene.
