
RIVERSDALE:While returning from an NSRI surf rescue training course at Wilderness, on Sunday afternoon, NSRI Kommetjie crew, in an NSRI rescue vehicle, happened upon a motorcycle accident believed to have been a hit and run where a motor vehicle collided with a motor bike on the N2, Riversdale. The motor vehicle allegedly fled the scene leaving the motorcyclist seriously injured in the road.The NSRI Kommetjie team, trained medics, stopped and rendered medical assistance to the motorcyclist. He is believed to be aged in his 50's, and suffered a serious leg and foot injury. When Western Cape Government Health EMS and Police arrived on the scene the NSRI Kommetjie team continued to assist paramedics to treat the motor cyclist before he was transported to hospital by ambulance in a serious but stable condition.Police reportedly chased after the vehicle that had been involved in the accident but NSRI are not aware if those involved were apprehended.RICHARDS BAY:At 16h13, Sunday, 11th September, NSRI Richards Bay duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Richards Bay and Spirit of Round Table II to rendezvous with the yacht Quest, with five crew onboard and their yacht suffering motor problems.The yacht had departed from Richards Bay for Tanzania the day before but the crew opted to turn around at Cape Vidal after discovering their fuel to be water contaminated and rendering their motor unusable.They were able to sail into the Port of Richards Bay where they were met by NSRI Richards Bay's sea rescue craft and they were assisted to a safe berth without incident and they will flush the motor and get fresh fuel before departing on their voyage.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
