Pic: Paul BevisAt 15:30 on Friday the 23rd of September 2016 the Maritime Rescue Co Ordination Centre (MRCC) put the NSRI Air Sea Rescue team on standby to casualty evacuate a 59 year Filipino man from the bulk carrier MV Skelt.The man is the ship's chief cook and was treated for a myocardial infarction (heart attack) by the ship's crew with advice from a local doctor. It was decided to wait for the MV Skelt to get closer to Durban before sending a rescue team to casualty evacuate him.At 04h50 on Sunday 25 September a15 Squadron Oryx lifted off with a crew of Pilot, Co-Pilot and Flight engineer from the airforce, two NSRI rescue swimmers and two paramedics from Netcare 911.The Oryx landed on the 180 meter ship approximately 20 nautical miles off Durban at 05h00. The man was carried onto the helicopter and flown to Saint Augustans hospital, landing at 05h20.He has been transferred to Entabeni Private hospital in a stable condition.STATION 9, Gordons BayAt 20h20 on Saturday the 24th of September Station 9 Gordon's Bay received a call from the Gordon's Bay Yacht Club asking us to assist the yacht Feeling Naughty, a 25ft yacht from Gordon's Bay.Feeling Naughty's skipper a 51 Bloemfontein man, confirmed that he had engine failure and was safely at anchor just outside the Gordon's Bay Harbour. He requested a tow into the harbour.Station 9 launched the Spirit of Surfski and Feeling Naughty was towed into the harbour to its mooring. Our duty crew helped secure the vessel to the mooring and thereafter no further assistance was required.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
