She is a 8.5m Rigid Inflatable Sea Rescue boat built by Gemini Marine in Cape Town. Driven by two 150 HP Yamaha four stroke engines she will have a top speed of 38 knots and range of eight hours at maximum speed. Designed to Sea Rescue specifications Jack & Irene is fully equipped for search and rescue. The crew complement is six and she will be launched using a 4x4 tractor on an especially designed dolly. Jack & Irene will be sailed from Table Bay to Gordon’s Bay in her final sea trial before she goes on service at her new home. Our present Sea Rescue boat house cannot accommodate a vessel of her size, so she will be housed in a temporary structure in the harbour area while we raise funds and secure a permanent home. Anyone who would like to view Jack & Irene is welcome to come down to the harbour and watch the crew training on weekends. Follow us on Facebook and visit our website to keep track of her rescue efforts. Supporters who would like to get involved with our fundraising campaign for a permanent boat shed to house Jack & Irene can click here. Donors and sponsors can contact Alison Smith at head office alison@searescue.org.za 021 434 4011 or visit the newly elected Station Commander, Alan Meiklejohn. img-20160916-wa0004 Cameron Green (Station 9 Gordon's Bay) and Matthys Koch (Station 24 Lamberts Bay) admire the brand new boatimg-20160916-wa0007img-20160916-wa0008img-20160916-wa0011
