On Thursday 25 February 2016, Angel Sibanda, 6, was swept away as she tried to cross the flooding Jukskei stream near her Diepsloot home.Press reports say that two other children, who also tried to cross the flooding stream, were rescued. Tragically Angel, a grade 1 pupil at Diepsloot Primary, drowned. The Diepsloot community has called for measures to be put in place to prevent this from happening again. They also asked for water safety education for the children. Today, heeding the community call, Soweto based WaterWise Academy Instructor Percy Mthombeni visited the school and taught 1300 children how to be safe near water.Percy teaches the children how to make a WaterWise PLAN Percy teaches the children how to make a WaterWise PLANPercy teaches Diepsloot Primary children about peer rescue.
