NSRI are continuing to urge extreme public caution around the coast with todays peak of the full moon Spring Tide.Higher than normal high tides, lower than normal low tides bringing with them much stronger than normal rip currents will be experienced along the coastline for the next 5 to 6 days.PORT EDWARD:On Wednesday, 23rd December, NSRI Port Edward assisted at an accident where a cyclist was knocked off his bicycle.NSRI medics treated the patient, an adult male, from Sandton, Johannesburg, and Netcare 911 and MedEvac ambulance services arrived on the scene and the man was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition and he was expected to fully recover.DURBAN:On Wednesday, 23rd December, NSRI Durban duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Eikos Rescuer and Megan II to assist a charter boat adrift in the harbour suffering motor mechanical failure.It appears that all passengers had already been taken off the charter boat by another boat and NSRI towed the boat to a safe mooring without incident.IMG-20151226-WA0007HEROLDS BAY:On Wednesday, 23rd December, NSRI Wilderness duty crew and an NSRI Wilderness rescue swimmer who lives near to Heralds Bay responded to assist.On arrival on the scene it was confirmed that all 3 children had managed to get out of the water without assistance and they were not injured and they required no further assistance.MELKBOSSTRAND:On Friday, 25th December, NSRI Melkbosstrand and Emergency Services responded to Table View Beach following reports of a drowning in progress.Prior to arriving on the scene Law Enforcement confirmed that the patient was safely out of the water and required no further assistance.WILDERNESS:On Friday afternoon, 25th December, a lifeguard rescued a 13 year old female found lying face down in the surf at Wilderness Beach.The lifeguard initiated CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts and was joined by fellow lifeguards and WC Government Health EMS paramedics.CPR was successful and the child was transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition.LAMBERTS BAY:On Friday, 25th December, at 23h40, NSRI Lamberts Bay launched the sea rescue craft Douglas Murray, following reports of red distress flares sighted North of Lamberts Bay.Despite an extensive search no sign of any persons in distress could be found and by mid morning on Saturday, 26th December, there remains no report of anyone overdue or missing and the reasons for the distress flare deployment remains unknown.SHELLY BEACH:On Saturday, 26th December, NSRI Shelly Beach dispatched crew members to South of Ramsgate following concerns from eye-witnesses about two paddlers appearing to be in trouble off-shore.On arrival on the scene the paddlers could be seen heading to shore and they were monitored until safely ashore and no further assistance was required.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONESMS 32287 (R1/SMS) with your name and a message of support for our Sea Rescue crew
