PORT ELIZABETH:
Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander, said:
'At 10a.m. on Tuesday, 4th August, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were placed on alert by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) reporting the bulk carrier SPRING HYDRANGEA, sailing from India to Rio De Janeiro, heading towards Port Elizabeth and requiring medical assistance for their Chief Cook who was suffering suspected yellow jaundice and requiring evacuation to hospital.
'At 17h00 NSRI Port Elizabeth launched the sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER IV accompanied by a Relay Ambulance Services paramedic and rendezvoused with SPRING HYDRANGEA 1.5 nautical miles off-shore of Port Elizabeth’s Port.
'The patient, a 45 year old Filipino, in a stable condition, was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought to shore. He has been transported to doctors in a Relay ambulance services ambulance for further medical evaluation and possible hospitalisation.'
MOSSEL BAY:
Andre Fraser, NSRI Mossel bay station commander, said:
'At 18h42, Wednesday, 05th August, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for assistance from the 23 foot yacht SANTA MARIA at the yacht club by Dias Beach with two crew onboard requesting assistance to get into the harbour following motor problems.
'NSRI Mossel Bay launched the sea rescue craft RESCUE 15 and on arrival on the scene the yacht was assisted to the harbour without incident and once safely moored no further assistance was required.'
HOUT BAY:
Lyall Pringle, NSRI Hout Bay station commander, said:
'At 06h00, Wednesday, 05th August, NSRI Hout Bay duty crew were activated to assist the 66 foot Catamaran yacht LINSCHOTEN, sailing from Saldanha Bay to Simons Town. She had battery failure and was low on diesel with 4 men onboard, 5 nautical miles off Hout Bay.
'NSRI Hout Bay launched the sea rescue craft NADINE GORDIMER and and on arrival on the scene the yacht was taken under tow and brought into Hout Bay safely without incident.'
