It was hot, it was muddy and it was smelly but it was a whole lot of fun!

Luke van Riet, Byron Knyvett-Knevitt, Enesta Swanepoel, David Knott, Juan Swanepoel and David RosenbergYesterday, Saturday 11 April 2015 on Lievland Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, NSRI Station 2 (Bakoven) entered a team into the famous,
Impi Challenge. The Impi Challenge combines trail running with an adventure style obstacle course. It is a 12KM course with 18 different obstacles. It is not for the faint hearted as there are challenging obstacles full of mud, heights, water, wire, ropes and more mud. This is not your regular Sea Rescue activity but it was an invaluable team builder and great exposure for the NSRI brand and Bakoven station. It was incredible to see the number of people taking part of all shapes and sizes. The ethos of Impi is to over come your fears – that is what the obstacles represent. The encouragement and enthusiasm from all participants and supporters was incredibly motivating and a true reflection of how we should face obstacles in life.

Luke van Riet: “I definitely shouted (encouragement) more than ran”.Ernesta Swanepoel: “Some of the other teams asked if we were called “Team Byron” as we shouted it so often – C’mon Byron, push!!!”

It goes without saying that the members of Sea Rescue are brave individuals who risk their lives each time they respond to a call for help at sea. Many values from the Impi can be transferred to Sea Rescue – guts, determination and teamwork. Well done to all in Team Bakoven. You did yourselves, the station and the NSRI proud.

A whole hearted thanks to Janette from
