At 20h30 on Monday the 20th of April, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) reporting a fisherman suspected of suffering a Stroke (CVA - Cerebral Vascular Accident) aboard the fishing trawler HARVEST LINDIWE.NSRI Port Elizabeth launched EIKOS RESCUER IV accompanied by an EC government Health EMS rescue paramedic and rendezvoused with the fishing trawler 1 nautical mile off-shore.The patient, 58 years old from Cape Town, was confirmed to have suffered a mild stroke, and in the care of the EMS paramedic, was transferred aboard our sea rescue craft and brought into Port where an EMS ambulance transported him to hospital in a stable condition. At 03h00 on Tuesday the 21st of April, NSRI Port Elizabeth were placed on alert by TNPA to assist the Cape Town Due South Sailing Academy yacht NINA, with 5 male crew onboard, suffering motor failure and requiring a tow into Port. They were lying just off the harbour wall. They were in no imminent danger and arrangements were made for NSRI to tow them into Port at around 07h00. They took down their sails to await our sea rescue craft. It appears that they had not deployed an anchor and on NSRI launching at 07h00 to go to fetch them they had drifted to 5 nautical miles off-shore.Our sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER IV reached them, in rain and dense fog, and they were towed to a safe berth in Port where no further assistance was required and they will have their motor repaired.Harvest Lindiwe Harvest Lindiwe (www.shipspotting.com) TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONESMS 32287 with your name and a message of support for our Sea Rescue crew
