At 11h25 on Friday the 4th of April, NSRI Gordons Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a Pencil Rubber-Duck capsized off-shore of Harbour Island with one man onboard reported to be in the water.The man’s wife, who was watching him from Harbour Island, had raised the alarm and the man had set off two red distress flares that were seen and reported by numerous eye-witnesses.Our NSRI Gordons Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF SURFSKI and responded.On arrival on-scene 51 year old Michael Abrahams, from Bellville, was found 1 nautical mile off Greenways, Gordons Bay, holding onto the upturned hull of his Pencil Rubber-duck. In a brisk wind he had drifted 1.2 nautical miles from where he capsized.Mr Abrahams was not injured and he was rescued onto our sea rescue craft and his boat was righted and brought to shore at Harbour Island where he required no further assistance.NSRI Gordons Bay Spirit of Surfski
