WATERWISE VISITS YARROW PRIMARY SCHOOL, KARKLOOF :Today KZN volunteer WaterWise Instructors Lyndo Ziqubu and Annie Waterhouse visited Yarrow Farm School in the Karkloof. This is their report:As Grade 6 was doing the ANA assessment in the classroom, we decided to do the lesson out of doors with the remaining learners. These learners’ parents are mostly farm workers and they have little or no exposure to spoken English or books. Consequently some of the concepts in both the PLAN and H-H-H were very hard for the learners to understand. Fortunately we had picture dictionaries with us for use in a library lesson later on. We used them to explain how to use a dictionary and how to find out the meaning of words. HAZARDS led them to DANGER and RISK. Further investigation took them to RISK as ‘something unpleasant that could happen’. We were then able to go onto to explain why keeping safe when assisting in an emergency was so important. Learning the Emergency number 10177 was fun and all learners participated with enthusiasm.WaterWise yarrow2WaterWise 3WaterWise 5yarrow7WaterWise
