Qhamukile School is a township school in Mpophomeni near Howick. It is a huge school with crowded classrooms and is under great pressure to accept more and more learners. When WaterWise volunteers Annie Waterhouse and Lyndo Ziqubu suggested combining classes the educators laughed and explained that each class had at least 45 learners per class and each classroom was very squashed. So they repeated the PLAN and H-H-H lesson four times. Phew!!!The learners were excellently behaved and their English was good enough to be able to learn in English and isiZulu. Understanding the making of a plan when they go swimming in the PLAN lesson is so much more relevant when there is some understanding of English. Annie did the first class and then Lyndo presented the lesson to the next three classes. He was brilliant and interacted with the kids in a very special way. Lyndo is a clever mimic and when acting out the rescue H-H-H scenario made the children laugh when trying to get help from people who might have a phone!!! E.g the gogo, the farmer, the shop girl!!!They left worksheets for the educators to give to the learners to do in a recap lesson in the next few days. These worksheets can be used as evidence of a Life Skills lesson.Learning 10177 at Qhamukile.
