Volunteer WaterWise Instructors Annie Waterhouse and Lyndo Ziqubu visited Triandra school in the KZN midlands:With a temperature of 32 degrees predicted for Howick, Lyndo and I set off for the cool hills of the Karkloof to visit a lovely farm school situated on a dairy farm. The principal there is very strict about making WaterWise lessons fit into the National CAPS curriculum. We were able to reassure her that Water Safety does feature in the Life Skills curriculum and well as Natural Science and Social Science. The Grade 4’s and 5’s were eager to listen to the PLAN lesson but their English skills were poor so I was pleased to have Lyndo translate for me. We repeated the mime performance many times and the learners did respond appropriately when asked to recap. We also did H-H-H lesson where we used comedy and actions to re-enact a dramatic rescue. They learnt the emergency number and were able to repeat it when questioned. They then settled down to do a worksheet that depicted a brave rescue. They then used this worksheet to tell the story later in their English class.A very enjoyable morning in the cool hills of the Karkloof.Luyando Lyndo and the children at Triandra.triandra2triandra4triandra3
