Laurie Rother, NSRI Mykonos duty controller, said:'At 15h55 (Friday, 29th November) NSRI Mykonos launched our sea rescue craft to join the local military who had embarked on a search for Andrew Forsyth, 47, an officer in the Air Force, who was overdue from a windsurfing trip in 38 knot off-shore winds.
During an extensive search the windsurfer was found near to the Iron Ore Jetty and at risk of running aground against sharp rocks, hypothermic and exhausted.
In strong gusting off-shore winds he had been swept out of Langebaan Lagoon mouth into Saldanha Bay after getting into difficulty while wind surfing and he had drifted 5 nautical miles from where he had been wind surfing in Langebaan Lagoon.
He was taken aboard our sea rescue craft and brought safely to shore where he was treated for hypothermia and following treatment he required no further assistance.'
