Station 4, Mykonos, celebrated their 45th Anniversary and Annual Awards Function on 25October.Station 4 first started operating in October 1968. NSRI as a whole, dates to 1967, when the National Sea Rescue Institute was registered as a non-profit organisation on 29 May 1967. Station 4 was originally in Saldanha, as the first boat house was near the Government Jetty in Saldanha. The station then had access to a very steep slip, which was not ideal, so they later moved to the Saldanha Bay Yacht Club premises. They operated from a shed there until 1999 when they moved to Club Mykonos. The name was then changed to Station 4, Mykonos. At Mykonos they operated out of 3 shipping containers for 5 years until our current boathouse/base was built. Our crew numbers dwindled drastically during this time due to our circumstances, at one stage we were operating with only 6 members. The building was officially opened in February 2004. In October 2013 we now have 28 members, this includes qualified sea- going crew, qualified shore controllers, trainees (both sea & shore) and station assistants. From left back: Siggi Weiss - Rubber Duck Award, Laurie Rother - Supporter of the Year, Shane Field - Crewman of the Year; From left front: Shani van der Merwe -Achiever of the Year, Luca Ceruti - Received a citation for saving the life of a child in the lagoon whilst out paddling.
