The Southern Cape NSRI regional training exercise was held on the Robberg Peninsula in Plettenberg Bay this past Saturday (24th August). The SAAF and local mountain club joined about 60 NSRI crew members from Witsand (Station 33), Stillbay (Station 31), Mossel Bay (Station 15), Wilderness (Station 23), Knysna (Station 12) and Plettenberg Bay (Station 14) which made it one of the bigest training sessions to be held recently.
After initial bad weather forecasts, the day turned out sunny and warm with a bit of wind and swell to add some edge to the training. Activities included abseiling (kindly set up and manned by the Mountain Club), dry hoists into the SAF chopper, some rock running around the island, wet hoists down to the boats in some decent swell, and a stretcher exercise on the leeward side of Robberg.A lot of experience was gained and a great day had by all. Station 14 would like to thank all the participating stations, as well as the SAAF pilot and crew, the mountain club and all others who worked hard to make the event possible. All pictures are by stuartbrinkfilms.com and are downloadable for free media use on Sea Rescue's Flickr page.G0010109 The Southern Cape NSRI regional training exercise was held on the Robberg Peninsula in Plettenberg Bay this past Saturday (24th August) Picture by stuartbrinkfilms.comAbseiling off Robberg.
