Paarl based WaterWise instructor Desiree Pinetown tells why she loves teaching WaterWise:Education has been sorely neglected in our youth. So I have made it my lifelong commitment to utilize the tools of the trade to uplift the community. Youngsters are the future of the nation. We must invest in our future.WaterWise champions a cause close to my heart where we are teaching important skills that can save lives. CHILDREN MUST GET THE MESSAGE: NO UNSUPERVISED SWIMMING. It is our duty to equip the youth with every possible skill that will make it easier for them to deal with the emerging problems of our society. We should not only focus our attention on academic performance but also on important lifeskills. Desiree teaches New Orleans Primary School children the WaterWise PLAN.WaterWise is learner friendly. It permits me to reach out and change the future by teaching our youth about the dangers of water and what to do in emergency situations. We prevent catastrophic drownings by equipping the learners with the popular WaterWise Plan. This awareness creates a confident and positive attitude amongst them. These basic skills lay a solid foundation and will be remembered for a long time. The greatest reward is knowing that I have made a difference in someone's life. Learning the emergency telephone number 10177.The WaterWise Education Programme is flexible. It places no boundaries on creativity and innovation. I can adapt the presentation according to the particular needs of a school. The plan helps me to bring out the best in learners. I have a great time in presenting the WaterWise Education Programme. Every day brings new challenges and new responses. The programme also offers the victims who nearly drowned or had traumatic experiences in water to come to terms with their fears and talk about it.I believe in 'paying it forward'. This means that the effort I put in now in helping shape the thought processes of our youth will make a difference in someone else's life somewhere in the future. This positive influence comes from the help that I received as a young scholar. It has made me passionate about helping others. The WaterWise Academy is proudly sponsored by Transnet National Ports Authority ( TNPA) Desire teaches New Orleans Primary School children how to do hands only CPR.
