Andre Fletcher, Durban’s Deputy Station Commander, writes about his visit to Bakoven:
During a recent business trip to Cape Town I had the opportunity of visiting Station 2 (Bakoven) whilst the crew were reorganising their Boat-House Boathouse to better accommodate their new 6.5 meter metre RIB.
Maintenance days are a very necessary and vital discipline for volunteers and even a visiting Deputy Station Commander was welcomed … to lend a hand. It was humbling to observe the comradery camaraderie and team work as each task was completed with determination and purpose whilst everyone mucked in. Station 2 also has, in my mind, one of (if not the most) technically challenging launch and recovery sites of any NSRI station. To Bruce and your team thank you for the awesome hospitality and all the best with your new rescue craft.
P.S. If the equipment rack falls of the wall – it wasn’t me !
